December Passport Acceptance Fair Information

In December 5, 2017

A passport acceptance fair is a government event held at a local United States Post Office, town hall or school to help both adults and children get a new passport. Most passport acceptance fairs are for first time passport applicants only, though in larger cities some events may also welcome passport renewal applicants as well. If you’re wondering why passport fairs are happening all throughout the United States, you’re not alone! These events were introduced to meet the increasing demand for passport applications in 2017 – 2018 and to provide citizens with busy schedules greater flexibility for dates and times to apply for their passport. Most passport acceptance fairs welcome walk-in applicants and some events will even have an onsite photographer providing applicants with the proper 2-inch by 2-inch passport photos.

Does a passport acceptance fair sound like something that could help you get your passport? If so, you’ll want to make sure that you come to the fair prepared with the required documents to submit your application. Here is what you should bring with you to a local passport fair:

  • Completed DS-11 Passport Application
  • Proof of Citizenship – certified birth certificate, hospital birth record, early baptismal or circumcision certificate, census, school, or medical records, notarized document announcing birth, etc. can be used as proof of citizenship
  • Proof of Identity – recently issued naturalization certificate, valid driver’s license or military/government ID
  • Legal guardian for all minors
  • 2 inch by 2 inch photograph of yourself*

*Some locations may provide photo services. Contact passport acceptance fair organizers to find out if this service will be available at your location.

If you do not have the required documents listed above, it may be possible to acquire them or apply without them. If you need a certified birth certificate, you can order one online. If you need help obtaining one of the forms of ID or citizenship, there are other options available which are outlined of the DS-11 passport application.

–Starting in early December, there will be passport acceptance fairs in Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas and Vermont.  (see the chart below for exact dates and times) The only location accepting passport renewal applications will be Danvers, MA.  All other events are for first time applicants only.
