Planning for Travel in 2021

COVID-19 has caused many of us  to change our plans and reschedule events.. The international travel scene is one of those areas that has experienced the biggest impact. Because of all the changes to the travel industry as a result of the pandemic, travel in 2021 is going to look a bit different. But what exactly does that mean? For starters, travel trends for 2021 are going to see a more effective health screening process. We’ll most likely see a more advanced processing system, as well as package deals, and a more strict set of regulations regarding travel tracking and requirements for travelers.

Travel in 2021 – What to Expect

A few things that travel experts expect to start happening in 2021 will greatly change international and domestic travel as we know it. They include more strict sanitary practices, an increase in private jet services, the use of travel agencies and consultants and more transparency for travelers. It’s likely that popular destinations will change as well. In order to keep travelers and the citizens at popular travel destinations safe, traveler transparency and tracking will become a major element in everyone’s travel plans.

International travel in 2021 will probably mean less packed accommodations, pinpoint tracking to help travelers and agencies stay informed, quarantines, and even changes in business travel trends are things we can anticipate moving into 2021.

Let’s take a look at some of the big changes we can expect from the travel industry, as well as some key points to consider when hashing out our travel plans moving forward, below.

  • Plan now and book for later in 2021, or even 2022 – You may be thinking “But travel in 2021 should be fine by then!”. We hope you’re right. We hope that the pandemic is under control and we can return to a more normal routine. Some experts are reporting that travel trends for 2021 are predicted to make a full recovery early in the year. While we hope the travel industry gets back on its feet as soon as possible, the safety of travelers is going to be a top priority. This means it may be a smart move to hold on just a bit longer and plan for later in 2021, or even 2022.
  • Airlines and travel agencies will implement more flexible cancelling policies – Most, if not all travel companies, from cruises to airlines, have implemented more flexible booking, cancellation, and booking changes policies. By making it easier to cancel or reschedule, these travel companies are giving travelers a sense of security in their travel planning.
  • Some really great deals – A benefit of booking now for later in 2021 or beyond,  is that you can take advantage of some really great deals and opportunities. To help the industry rebound, discounted travel rates and airline tickets are available, and you are likely to find some really great deals.
  • Social distancing means more room – Although some airlines are still packing people in, travelers will probably see accommodations that are less dense with other travelers in their space. This could mean that some forms of travel may see a rise in fees and booking costs.
  • New regulations and travel requirements – With the pandemic has come new tracking, new regulations, and new health requirements to ensure that travelers aren’t sick or won’t expose other travelers and populations to disease. A new app called Dragonslayer aims to help airlines, cruise lines, and countries allowing travelers keep track of important information regarding travelers. It helps pinpoint infections, keeps track of cases in certain destinations, and helps travelers know what kind of documentation they may need to gain entry.

No matter what the new travel landscape looks like, the travel industry is adapting to the needs of travelers all over the world. By implementing changes to help keep travelers safe, we’re hopeful that travel will rebound, safer than ever. As the world opens back up to travel, it’s important to be ready when your travel plans come to fruition. Make sure you’ve got certified copies of your birth certificate on hand for your passport application if you don’t already have one. It’s best to look into the new travel requirements for your destination, as well. Every country will be different, and it’s good to know we’re all doing our part to keep one another safe!
