As another year comes to an end, we often take time to reflect on the year prior. Perhaps 2015 was the year you moved into a new home, sent a child off to college, or made some other major changes in your life. With each passing year, it is also important to remember those we have lost. It is now that we honor these 10 notable celebrities that passed in 2015.

  • Darryl Dawkins, famous NBA star, was known for his unparalleled dunking skills. He was also the first player to ever be drafted straight out of high school during the first round draft to play in the NBA. He passed on August 27, 2015 at the age of 58.
  • Leonard Nimoy was our beloved Spock from the Star Trek movies. He passed on February 27, 2015 at the age of 83.
  • Ellen Albertini Dow was one of the famous Golden Girls, but was also in Star Trek, Seinfeld, and made a famous appearance in The Wedding Singer. She passed on May 4, 2015 at the age of 101!
  • Sir Christopher Lee was a British actor known for his roles in Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Man with the Golden Gun just to name a few of this works. He passed on June 7, 2015 at the age of 93.
  • Allen Toussaint a legendary R&B musician, songwriter, and producer from New Orleans passed away on November 9, 2015. He was known for his work appearing in nearly every genre of music and he had even worked with the Rolling Stones. Toussaint was 77.
  • Maureen O’Hara was an Irish actress who was made famous by her roles in Miracle on 34th Street and The Quiet Man. She passed on October 24, 2015 at the age of 95.
  • Yogi Berra was the man who helped the Yankees obtains 10 World Series Titles. He was first the Yankee’s Catcher but would later go on to manage the team. Yogi Berra passed on September 22, 2015 at the age of 90.
  • Wes Craven directed the horror films Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream and was an icon in the horror movie space. He passed on August 30, 2015 at the age of 76.
  • Amelia Boynton Robinson was a leader during the civil rights movement in the 60’s. She was most known for her huge role in the Selma to Montgomery marches in Alabama in 1965. She passed on August 26, 2015 and was 104!
  • B.B. King was the king of blues music and was even ranked #6 on a 2011 list of greatest guitarists of all time. He passed on May 14, 2015 at the age of 89.

We take this time to thank each and every one of the people who passed in 2015 for their contribution to entertainment and culture. These were all influential people in their own right and the world will not be the same without them. As we move into 2016, we remember those we lost and are thankful for those we have with us!
